William Eugene “Gene” Dreffen

William Eugene “Gene” Draffen, 88, of Tipton, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021 at his home.

He was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Speed, a son of Wade and Irene (Barron) Draffen.

He married Joyce Ann Williams May 17, 1953 in California, Missouri.

He served in the United Navy Air Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He attended First Baptist Church in Tipton and was a member of the Tipton American Legion Edgar Cole Post 304.

He played softball and worked as a car mechanic on the side.

He retired in 1991 from Union Electric as a construction supervisor.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bird hunting, going to car races, and anything car, truck or engine-related.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years; daughters Reneé Miller and husband Lyle of Westwood Hills, Kan., LaVena Hutchison and husband Dick of Sedalia; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Fern Bricka of Versailles.

In addition to both of his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Ward Draffen, Walter Wade “Buck” Draffen, and one infant sister.

Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton.

A private graveside service will be at a later date with full military honors at the Hickman Cemetery in Clarksburg.

Memorial contributions were suggested to the Pisgah Cemetery or the Tipton American Legion Edgar Cole Post 304 and may be left in the care of the funeral home.
