The Versailles Soccer League is in a bit of deep water as they start up their 2021 season. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the league was shut down for the 2020 spring season, the 2020 fall season and, now, the spring 2021 season.
According to Versailles Soccer League organizers, the process of foreclosure has begun by the bank. Organizers stated the league would need $4,000, a full board, and a plan moving forward to stop the foreclosure.
A few members of the newly formed board spoke with the bank to find out exactly what the total monetary amount needed would be.
To keep the league operating $3,164 plus lawyer fees, $340 to reopen checking account, $1,800 to pull off a fall season, and $650 to turn utilities back on for the buildings on site is needed.
The plan is to be back on track for a fall season, but in order for that to happen the league will need the community’s help.
The league has already had a representative out in the town collecting donations and sponsorships.
The league is hoping to get a fundraiser ready by Saturday, June 19. The final date will be decided by the board next week.
Board members know this is last minute and will be a struggle, but unfortunately they are “down to the wire.”
The total collected so far is $4,000 in donations.
The soccer league will also need physical volunteers. The league has had “wonderful coaches” in the past and are hoping they will come back.
Coaches and volunteers are needed for painting the fields, training coaches, operating concessions, and mowing.
A local man approached the board about helping with the current state of the fields. According to the board, the volunteer is going to bale the cut grass for the league.
There has been discussion of the league absorbing the Stover Soccer League and conducting summer camps for two teams in each age group: U4, U6, U8, U10, U12, U14.
Due to the league’s planned inclusion of Stover soccer players, they will be working toward changing the name to “Morgan County Soccer League.” (previously Versailles Soccer League)
The board members wish to emphasize the need for volunteers. “Without the time, energy, and dedication of the gracious volunteers, no amount of money can save the league.”
The league was started in 1984 by Rick Clark. The league has always had a good turnout of players and the league is asking the community to keep the league alive.
