Cade Mahlberg and Brock Biggerstaff

Two firefighters, Brock Biggerstaff and Cade Mahlberg, were recognized in a graduation ceremony Friday, Oct. 2 by the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District for Recruit Class 20-10.
The two new full-time firefighters were hired to replace two positions that were vacated earlier this year.
This will be Mahlberg’s first full-time position. Biggerstaff was previously employed with the Gravois Fire Protection District.
The new firefighters underwent five weeks of rigorous physical fitness and firefighter training to familiarize them with Sunrise Beach’s standards and equipment. The lead instructor for class 20-10 was Captain Jack Haggard.
Mahlberg was pinned with his Probationary Firefighter badge during the ceremony by his mother. Biggerstaff was pinned by his wife.
In each academy class, one recruit is chosen to receive the award for Honor Graduate, this award is given for the recruit who stands out throughout the academy through initiative and hard work.
According a fire district press release, “Although the decision was tough, with only two members in the class, the award went to Biggerstaff.”
The Master of Ceremonies for the graduation was Captain David Hurtubise. The National Anthem was sung by Vanessa Hebrank. Remarks were delivered by Fire Chief Joseph LaPlant and Assistant Chief Jamie Karl. Distinguished guest on hand was Retired Fire Chief John Sullentrop.
Both Mahlberg and Biggerstaff were assigned to Ladder Truck 12 at Station #3 in Sunrise Beach.
