The Versailles Tigers football squad defeated the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs 49-22 Friday, Nov. 1 in first-round district competition in El Dorado Springs.
Versailles Quarterback Coby Williams led the Tigers to the win with seven touchdowns. He ended the game with 208 rushing yards, averaged 7.7, in 27 attempts, and would rush in three of his touchdowns. Williams passed for 211 yards, completing 12 of 21 attempts, a completion percentage of 57 percent, with three passing touchdowns. Williams also had a receiving touchdown from a pass by Adam Radcliff for 43 yards.
Dallas Waller made his presence known throughout the game, racking up 183 receiving yards, averaging 22.9, with three receiving touchdowns in eight receptions.
Neither team would score until the second quarter. The Tigers started the first scoring drive just before the end of first quarter. The Tigers then came out in the second quarter and scored the first touchdown of the game on a Williams two-yard rush.
The El Dorado Springs Bulldogs would quickly respond with a touchdown of their own. Clayton Collins would end their very quick drive with a pass to wide receiver Brayden Housh for a 29-yard touchdown. The point after was good, tying the game 7-7.
Williams led the Tigers down field on the next drive to respond to the Bulldogs. Williams capped the drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown. The point after by Waller would put the Tigers up 14-7.
The Bulldogs would score again on another Collins pass, but the Tigers answered on a Williams pass completion to Waller for a 33-yard touchdown. With the point after being good the score was 21-14, Versailles.
The Tigers dominated the game from there. They would go on to score two more touchdowns in the second quarter off two passing plays: one pass from Williams to Waller for a five-yard touchdown and the other on a Radcliff pass to Williams for a 43-yard touchdown.
Williams scored the last two touchdowns of the game for the Tigers in the third quarter with another rushing and another passing touchdown.
The Bulldogs finally scored again on another passing touchdown from Collins to wide receiver Preston Robinson and finished the drive with a successful two-point conversion.
The final score was Tigers 49 – Bulldogs 22.
