Morgan County R-II School District Superintendent Joyce Ryerson has been placed on paid administrative leave by the district’s board of education. The decision came during a series of special session meetings over the holiday break.
An executive session of the school board (closed to the public and the press) Wednesday, Dec. 18 included legal action involving the district and discussion regarding the “hiring, firing, disciplining, or promotion of employees.”
The school board voted 7-0 at that meeting to place Ryerson on administrative leave. The reasons for the decision were not released by the district.
It is not known if the discussion regarding legal action, allowed under Missouri’s Sunshine Law to remain undisclosed, was related to the Ryerson decision.
In another special session Thursday, Jan. 2, the board voted 7-0 to “extend” Ryerson’s administrative leave.
When asked by the Leader-Statesman for additional details, no comments were provided by the district.
In other special session business, the R-II board changed the regular board meeting date from Tuesday, Jan. 21 to Thursday, Jan. 23 and postponed the annual long-range planning meeting, normally scheduled in January.
