The Morgan County Library now has a fresh coat of asphalt sealant on the parking lot. Work was completed this week as part of ongoing maintenance at the facility.
Library director Stacey Embry reported to the Morgan County Library Board of Trustees Thursday, Oct. 8, that circulation is “slowly building back to pre-COVID days.”
Embry also reported library video checkouts and engagements through social media are down.
Book Club will meet in person in November and the mid-November, story time is slated to be in the community room with social distancing and no craft. Two different times may be offered to accommodate a large turnout.
Notary on Staff
The library now has a notary public on staff to serve Morgan County citizens. There will be no charge to offer this service.
The library’s printer lease expires this year. The public copier will be updated with wireless capabilities. To service this upgrade, the Wi-Fi service was increased throughout the library building.
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Morgan County Library will be gathering estimates for the construction of an outdoor patio area at the library. The Friends annual book sale book sale raised $3,500 toward that effort and added 40 new members.
In addition to parking lot seal, the library’s carpet is now 15 years old and in need of replacement. Estimates will be gathered to look at replacing it in 2021.
Hoopla (a streaming audio books service) costs were discussed. The number of checkouts is estimated to slowly return to five a month. The cost is approximately $800 a month.
SORA, a reading app for students, operating in conjunction with Overdrive, is now available in the area for school use at no cost to the school. Both schools (R-I in Stover and R-II in Versailles) have signed an agreement to participate. It is not currently in operation as of press time.
Library Online Gift Store?
Embry is considering adding a gift store to the library’s website. Other libraries have done this to sell library logo merchendise. No decision was made by the board.
Aflac, Bank Balance
A presentation about Aflac supplemental insurance options was presented to the board. Aflac products will be presented to library employees to help them decide if they would like to purchase additional plans at their own cost.
As of Sept. 30, the cash balance for the General Fund was $189,942.29.
The library board will next meet 5:15 p.m. Nov. 12.
