Mary Louise Mavity, 82, of Laurie, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 in The Knolls Residential Care in Laurie.
She was born Nov. 16, 1936 in Lansing, Ill., a daughter of Harvey Claude and Pauline (Orletta) Dean.
She was raised in Lansing, Ill. and was a 1954 graduate of Thornton Fractional High School. She later went on to receive an associate’s degree.
She made a career in the specialty foods industry working for Skandia Foods, Johnson & Johnson Baby Products, and European Imports. Her job allowed her to travel throughout the world.
She enjoyed painting and drawing, swimming, yoga, and bird watching.
She is survived by children Teryl Sawosik and husband Gary of Littleton, Mass., Theodore Mavity and wife Tami of Hobart, Ind., and Tom Mavity and wife Michelle of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; five grandchildren; two brothers Robert Dean and wife Kate of Tampa, Fla., and Donald Dean and wife Rochelle of Dyer, Ind; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Harvey Dean.
A celebration of life observance is scheduled 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Visitation is scheduled 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 15 at the funeral home.
