A ballot initiative to renew the Law Enforcement Sales Tax for another 20 years was the only question on the ballot. Countywide vote totals were 856 “Yes” and 293 “No.” This was a margin of approximately 74.5 percent of at least 1,149 ballots cast during the election. The LEST was enacted by county voters in 1998 to fund the construction of the Morgan County Justice Center, and to maintain law enforcement services and facilities countywide. Due to the Nov. 7 election results, the county’s 0.5-percent sales tax will continue being  collected until at least March 31, 2038. It will be up for renewal again in November 2037. These election results are unofficial. Official results will be verified Monday, Nov. 13 by the county election verification board.
