The Versailles Middle School cross country runners competed in the Middle School Championship race Saturday, Oct. 22 in Wheatland.
The race consisted of a two-mile course, with runners separated by class, and the top 25 in each class medaling.
Rhyland Cunningham wrapped up his first season with an exciting finish. “Using his speed the last 200 meters of the race, he passed three runners and almost passed a fourth,” said Coach Laura Piercy. “He just missed medaling by less than .5 seconds. We are so proud of Rhyland and all he accomplished this season. We are looking forward to see what he accomplishes next year!”
Cunningham finished 26th, with a time of 13:22.86, earning a new two-mile course personal record.
Klara Keeter wrapped up her middle school cross country career with a strong race from beginning to end. “She was able to hold off runners surging behind her,” said Coach Piercy. “Klara medaled in every race she competed in this season, and we are so proud of her, and can’t wait for her to join our varsity team next year.”
Keeter medaled in 13th place with a time of 14:47, earning a new two-mile course personal record.
