The West Central Missouri Community Action Agency (WCMCAA) announced Monday, May 13 that the organization has not been awarded a new contract to provide Head Start services, following a competitive bid process.
The agency has provided the Head Start program the last 53 years to a nine-county region, including Morgan, Bates, Benton, Cass, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, St. Clair, and Vernon counties.
The Head Start program is funded by the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF). The WCMCAA’s funding expires June 30. ACF has designated Community Development Institute Head Start to operate services until a permanent agency can be selected.
Officials with ACF are hosting a meeting 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at The Delozier, 201 W. Franklin St. in Clinton, to discuss continuation of services for children currently enrolled in WCMCAA Head Start. For more information, call 699-900-6833. A webinar is also available.
Gina Ensor, communications director for WCMCAA, wrote, “... this is a grave injustice to our local communities, staff, Head Start students, and families. ... Through the remainder of our contract, we will continue to provide the quality Head Start services families have been accustomed to receiving.”
