Versailles City Fire Department and Versailles Rural Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a residential structure fire Sunday, Feb. 14 on South Seymour Street in Versailles. City Fire Chief Duane Miller reported everyone was out of the structure at the time of the fire. Firefighters initially responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. Miller reported upon arrival the fire was in the southeast part of the structure. A line was laid to the rear of the structure to attempt to make a stop. As more personnel arrived, two more lines were laid and a 5-inch supply line was connected to the nearest hydrant. The fire was controlled within an hour. A total of 18 personnel were on scene, along with three apparatus. A later rekindle, at approximately 7:30 p.m. drew 13 personnel and three apparatus. The rekindle was controlled within 25 minutes.

Temperatures were in single digits while fighting the fire, making things more challenging than usually encountered.
