Members of the Morgan County R-II Board of Education participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new baseball/softball facility Monday, March 11 in Versailles.
The board of education approved a contract with Byrne & Jones Construction of St. Louis to build a new baseball/softball facility, remove and replace the football field turf, relocate throwing sports areas, resurface the running track, install sidewalk, and asphalt a new parking lot.
The entire project is expected to cost $2,229,306, the vast majority of which is coming through outside contributions.
The baseball/softball stadium will include a synthetic turf field (and all drainage, base, stabilization, fill, etc.); bullpen mounds; netting; fence and windscreen; four 72-seat bleacher systems; double batting cage; dugouts with roof, bench, and storage cubbies; portable game mound; lighting system; foul poles with wings; concession and restroom area with press box on top; sidewalk and plaza; new shot put and discus area. This portion of the construction is estimated to cost $1,507,306.
Replacing the football field turf (now in its 11th year of use) will cost an estimated $475,000.
Resurfacing the track will cost approximately $92,000.
The planned parking lot will come in at about $125,000.
A scoreboard and sound system at the baseball/softball stadium will cost approximately $30,000.
Site preparation work is underway and the anticipated completion date is this August.
