Betty Jean Simmons
Betty Jean Simmons, 84, of rural Sweet Springs, died Saturday, June 20, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born June 2, 1936 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Dorsey W. Hutchison and Mary Cartner Hutchison.

She married Leonard R. Simmons Oct. 18, 1952. He survives of the home.

She lived in the rural Sweet Springs area most of her life. She and her husband farmed and operated businesses together.

She was a member of Southside Assembly of God in Marshall.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by children Betty Williams and husband Larry, Ronnie Simmons and wife Renee, Loretta “Retta” Kelz and husband Scott, all of rural Sweet Springs and Pamela Brandt and husband Rick of rural Versailles; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother Jimmie Hutchison of Sweet Springs; sisters Virginia Newell of Gravette, Ark., Mary Peeples, and Doris Simmons and husband Gale, both of Sweet Springs; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Leonard “Junior” Simmons; sisters Gladys Ferguson and Marilyn Sue Portwood; and brother Dorsey T. “Catfish” Hutchison.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with the Rev. Cliff Cato and William W. Harlow officiating. Burial was at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall.

Memorial contributions were suggested to Southside Assembly of God, in Marshall.
