John Paul Stevenson, 83, of Stover, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
He was born May 21, 1934 in Lewiston Ill., a son of John H. and Gertrude E. (Pierce) Stevenson.
In 1954, he married Betty McDaniel of Macomb, Ill. and had two sons, John Stevenson and Randall Stevenson.
He married Shirley Hallam May 3, 1969, and had one son, Paul.
He graduated in 1952 from Valley Senior High School in Fairview, Ill. Soon after high school, he worked at Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill., and was later employed at the Illinois Electric Porcelain Company of Macomb, Ill. He worked as a carnival operator in the state of California during the 1960s.
After returning to Missouri, he was employed by Parkhurst Manufacturing Co. of Sedalia painting trailer and truck frames, then later by Fischer Manufacturing Co. in Tipton building pool tables. After Spalding closed the pool table factory, he worked at GW Lumber Co. in Stover as a band saw operator.
He raised chickens and goats on his farm in Stover and sold eggs. By 1980, he began his woodworking and furniture manufacturing business specializing in children’s furniture.
He is survived by sons John Stevenson, and Randall Stevenson and wife Shirley; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Paul.
